Focus on

Guillaume Benichou
Guillaume Benichou is a French photographer based in Biarritz, in the southwest of France. Through his images, he explores the sensitivity of everyday life, focusing on people and the fleeting, seemingly ordinary moments that shape their existence. He is drawn to the hidden dimension of these instants, which hold a profound mystery and offer clues to understanding the human world.

“We are the world, but before we can understand it, we have to start by exploring ourselves.” This reflection lies at the heart of his photographic practice, which unfolds through an attentive gaze toward individual experience and the relationships between people and their surroundings. Photography becomes a tool for investigation and discovery, a way of approaching the complexity of existence by starting with what is familiar, intimate, and often overlooked.
I realized that trying to rationalize the world made no sense. I try to capture moments that remind me there is nothing we truly need to understand, but rather we must learn to let go in order to exist fully.
I began to see a form of beauty in this ‘not knowing’, a beauty that preserves the greatness of something we cannot name, but can deeply feel.

His work takes the form of a visual narrative suspended between presence and the desire to escape. His photographs are not conceived as isolated images, but as fragments of a broader story, meant to interact and form an open-ended journey without a predetermined direction or destination. Benichou leaves room for chance and ambiguity, transforming ordinary scenes, spontaneous gestures, and overlooked details into moments of wonder and reflection.
