Catia Simões was born in Brazil and currently lives in Turin, Italy. She graduated with a degree in law in 2015 but discovered in photography the purest way to express herself without using words. She began using photography as a personal therapeutic outlet while struggling with panic disorder and generalized anxiety, which led to the creation of her emotionally resonant self-portraits. Her portraits often feature people close to her—individuals who connect with her work, her process, and the emotions she conveys. Her photography evokes a deep sense of melancholy and nostalgia, drawing on the aesthetic of analogue photography, natural light, and dramatic shadows.

If photography or my camera could transport me back in time, I would go back to help my mother. It is something I carry in my heart and wish I had done, but I was too young to understand that she needed help. Sadly, she left me when I was only seven. It hurts to face our demons. However, being willing to open your heart through art is a brave thing to do, and there will always be someone there to support you.
