Yung Hua Chen, born in Taipei, pursued studies in fashion design, an experience that profoundly shaped her visual sensibility and informed her understanding of form, texture, and composition. It was during her academic years that she began to explore photography, gradually developing a distinctive visual language in which fashion and storytelling merge seamlessly.

“Beyond the lens, let tenderness remain.”

Influenced from an early age by her father, a poet and visual artist, Chen cultivated a contemplative and observant gaze, learning to recognize beauty in quiet, often overlooked details. This early exposure to artistic practice is reflected in her intimate and introspective approach to image-making, where photography becomes both a personal and expressive process.

Through her lens, Chen creates poetic and atmospheric imagery defined by subtle tonalities and a refined use of color. Her manipulation of light and shadow—fluid and ever-changing—contributes to the creation of soft, cinematic environments in which subjects appear suspended in a delicate, almost dreamlike dimension.

Her work is particularly notable for its nuanced portrayal of the human figure, often exploring femininity in a way that is both gentle and unconventional. Blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, her images evoke memories, dreams, and emotional states, achieving a careful balance between aesthetic precision and narrative depth.
