Nick Prideaux is an Australian photographer based in Paris, France, whose practice has been shaped by an extensive experience of living and working across different cultural and visual landscapes. Originally from Byron Bay, he moved to Melbourne to study filmmaking and screenwriting, before photography gradually became his primary creative language. He is interest in cinema, continues to inform his approach to image-making, where atmosphere, composition, and a strong sense of stillness play an important role.

After moving to Japan in 2011, Prideaux spent six years there before continuing his journey through Bangkok and eventually settling in Paris. These experiences across Melbourne, Beijing, Tokyo, and Southeast Asia have become an important part of his visual vocabulary, shaping a practice attentive to the subtle details of everyday life, changing environments, and fleeting moments. His photography often searches for a sense of calm within the rhythm of contemporary life, focusing on understated scenes, light, colour, and gestures that might otherwise pass unnoticed. His work has appeared in publications including Vanity Fair, GOOP, Monocle, Marie Claire, Vogue Germany, Fisheye, CLO, and Nowness, alongside commercial collaborations with clients such as Google, Expedia, Ruinart Champagne, Maison Crivelli, Leif Skincare, and Bastille Perfumes.

Photography is paying attention – sitting with a moment long enough to notice it’s already leaving. There’s a kind of peace in that, once you stop resisting it – the light will change, the person will move, the water will continue to flow. My work is less about the subject than about the space around it, the silence it leaves when it’s gone. Through stillness, through breath, through sitting with what is, this is what photography is for me. A photograph, for me, is just a record of having been present for something that was never going to stay, and that’s enough.

Alongside his editorial and commercial work, Prideaux has developed a personal practice rooted in contemplative, often minimalist imagery. His first photography publication, 008, was released with Setanta Books in 2021 and brought together six years of photographs made on 35mm film. In 2023, he was selected for the La Maison de La Chapelle residency, and in 2025 he released Grace Land, a hardcover photobook published by Whooden Studios. His work has been exhibited internationally in London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Montreal, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Paris. Across these different contexts, Prideaux continues to use photography as a way of slowing down, becoming present, and finding beauty in the fleeting moments that exist between the larger events of everyday life.
